7. Must see in Trivandrum

The following are less than 10 minutes drive from  the Conference venue:


*Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, located inside East Fort,Trivandrum  is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture. Its history   dates back to the 8th century.


*Puthenmalika (Kuthiramalika) Palace is  walkable distance  from Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple.

*The Napier Museum has artefacts, porcelains, masks and other interesting items ranging from 7th  century to 19th. Close to  the Museum is Sri Chitra Art Gallery which has three major  collections of Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings. The  Museum, Art Gallery, Zoo and Museum of Natural History are close to beautiful green grounds and are at walkable distance.


* Priyadarshini Planetarium

The following are less than 30 minutes drive from  the Conference venue and  can be visited in the evenings …

*Veli Tourist village, an ideal  picnic spot, where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea  and it offers boating facilities. Huge sculptures  dot the landscape too!

*Shanghumukham Beach,  known for the clear view of the setting sun, is a frequented picnic spot  and is  famous for the huge Matsyakanyaka (mermaid) sculpture.

The following are roughly  one hour drive from the Conference venue:

*Kovalam, one of the best  beaches  in the world!

*Poovar Island close to the natural harbor Vizhinjam is a wonderful place which includes the sea, rivers, beaches and backwaters all in one location.
